Support Worker – In House Support – Castle Forbes Bay

About the Role

Our Community Services Division supports clients across Tasmania, in three areas:

Community Access – supporting clients to access events and activities in their community including social events, recreational activities, shopping and school.

Capacity Building – supporting clients to develop the skills and experience they need to achieve their personal goals including cooking, cleaning, transport training, and socialising.

Customised Employment – supporting clients to determine their work and training goals and connecting them with the opportunities that best suit them.

Our services are delivered in the community, in client homes, and in our own Hubs.

In this role you will:

  • Support a client to build their capacity and achieve their goals in their own home.
  • Administer prescribed medication in accordance with policies and guidelines.
  • Provide personal care as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with the client and their important people including written, verbal and non-verbal communication.
  • Manage emergency situations using the appropriate processes and procedures.
  • Complete general domestic and maintenance duties.
  • Complete client case notes, incident reporting and uploading of documents into Nexus’ client management system.
  • Other duties as allocated from time to time.

About You

Our Ideal Candidate will have the following:

  • Experience supporting a person with disability and engaging with them as participating members of society whilst respecting their level of knowledge and skill
  • Ability to build rapport with a wide range of people.
  • Willingness to learn and a positive, open mindset.
  • Effective communication skills, including written, verbal and non-verbal.
  • An understanding of the NDIS and its impacts on clients and families.
  • Ability to manage emergency situations.

 

Working in the disability sector means you will also need the following:

  • Current National Police Check (no more than 6 months old)
  • Current Working with Vulnerable People Card (with NDIS endorsement /employment type)
  • HLTAID011 Current First Aid certificate
  • Unrestricted Tasmanian Driver’s license, reliable car and comprehensive insurance
  • HLTHPS006 Assist Clients with Medication (desirable)
  • HLTWHS005 Manual Handling Course (desirable)

Note: A pre-employment physical will be required for this role (including drug and alcohol testing.)
