Recycle Reward Depot Coordinator

About the Role

Nexus’s social enterprise, SEED (Social Enterprise, Employment and Diversity), is establishing a Recycle Rewards Container Collection Depot in Hobart.  We expect to collect and process 15 million containers a year.

The Recycle Rewards scheme will return 10c for each eligible container presented at the Depot. This is a great opportunity for individuals who are passionate about sustainability, making a positive impact on the environment and their local community and supporting people to learn valuable employment skills.

The Recycle Rewards Depot Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the smooth operation of the Depot and ensuring a seamless recycling experience both at the Depot and external collection points.

The position has a strong Business Development Representative role and will also function in a Business Development capacity, driving our new business initiative and establishing and maintaining a customer base of community and business collection points. The workload split for the position would be roughly equal between the Depot Coordinator role and the Business Development role.

About the SEED workforce

SEED is a social enterprise wholly owned by Tasmanian disability support provider Nexus Inc. SEED comprises several business units including gardening, minor maintenance, cleaning, Test and Tag, horticulture and retail. Recycling and waste recovery will be a new venture. SEED employs people with disability and provides training and employment opportunities at full award wage.

Nexus is an independent, NDIS registered, not for profit organisation employing over 600 staff who support people with disability in areas including capacity building, supported living and employment.

Key Responsibilities

The role of the Recycle Rewards Depot Coordinator includes the following duties:

  • Manage the daily activities of the Depot, ensuring high levels of productivity and accuracy
  • Roster staff and coordinate a mobile collection team
  • Work with the Nexus Customised Employment staff to ensure the SEED Depot team completes projects to a high standard and meets customer expectations
  • Monitor Depot performance, including turn times, equipment repairs and downtime
  • Ensure safe, reliable service delivery on internal and external customer sites
  • Ensure staff adhere to all health and safety procedures and highlight hazards/faults/risks
  • Create a positive environment for people with disability to learn and develop their employment skills
  • Drive new business initiatives by canvassing prospective customers and winning new business
  • Complete client proposals and presentations as required
  • Work with key internal teams to ensure desirable service levels are achieved.
  • Lead ongoing continuous improvement reviews of portfolio services to ensure effective, efficient, and services that are aligned with customer needs.

About You

Our ideal candidate will have the following (Selection Criteria)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Previous experience leading a small or medium sized team
  • Experience in building and maintaining Customer Relationships
  • Demonstrated high level of personal integrity and ethics with the ability to always maintain confidentiality and discretion
  • Commitment to a safe work environment with experience in ensuring adherence to Manual Handling Techniques and Occupational Health and Safety
  • Demonstrated experience working with people with disability. Experience managing people with disability would be advantageous.
  • An understanding of the waste or materials handling industry would be desirable.

Working in the disability sector means you will also need (or be able to obtain) the following:

  • Current National Police Check (no more than 6 months old)
  • Current Working with Vulnerable People Card (with NDIS endorsement)
  • Unrestricted Tasmanian Driver’s license
