Support Worker – Complex Support

About the Role

After expanding into the North West of Tasmania in 2023 we are now looking for compassionate and motivated support workers to join our Complex Support team in the region.

Our Support Workers are kind, empathetic, and passionate about supporting people to achieve their goals. They encourage clients to try new things, build capacity, and develop independence.

Nexus Support Workers are professional and have an interest in improving their skills and knowledge as support workers.

About Nexus Complex and Individualised Supports (NCIS)

The Nexus Complex and Individualised Supports (NCIS) team supports young people and adult clients with a range of psychosocial and intellectual disabilities in residential and community settings.

The team is focused on providing support to clients who have a high level of capabilities and independent decision-making skills but who also have a range of complex support needs arising from trauma, emotional, intellectual and psychosocial issues. All roles within this team are supported by allied health based therapeutic programs, staff training, and mentoring which have been designed around the individual needs of each client.

About You

We welcome support workers from a variety of backgrounds.

Our ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Ability to relate to clients as participating members of society whilst respecting their level of knowledge and skill
  • Ability to build rapport with a wide range of people
  • Willingness to learn and a positive, open mindset
  • Effective communication skills, including written, verbal and non-verbal
  • An understanding of the NDIS and its impacts on clients and families
  • Ability to manage emergency situations and stress
  • Demonstrated positive approach to the rights of people with disabilities
  • Ability to assist in the implementation of training programs for clients
  • Experience with Positive Behaviour support and trauma, including Trauma Informed Practice (desirable)

 

Working in the disability sector means you will also need the following:

  • Current National Police Check (no more than 6 months old)
  • Current Working with Vulnerable People Card (with a NDIS endorsement /employment type)
  • Current First Aid certificate (HLTAID011) and medication training (HLTHPS006)
  • Unrestricted Tasmanian Driver’s license
  • Certificate of full Covid 19 vaccination (in-line with government requirements).

Note: A pre-employment physical will be required for this role (including drug and alcohol testing).
